Not shitting the bed

So watching my teams this weekend, just one phrase comes to mind, "DON'T SHIT THE BED," which is also my mantra right now. Sorry for the aside:

I have moved from the hospital to a rehab facility, haa haa, that's a funny one, this is a nursing home and I am by far the youngest by 20 years plus. I am relegated to the bed, even though I was able to get into the bathroom with a Walker, but I have to go through an assessment before I can do that here. You want to feel embarrassed? Try sharing a room and having to 💩 into a bedpan. Sorry....but our medical system is so fucked....Ok sorry back to the games.

Huskers win first game in the Rhule era 35-11

Well it wasn't pretty but didn't shit the bed. A solid win in their first home game. Now No. Illinois did beat Boston College in their first game, so it wasn't a walkover.

First start for QB Heinrich Haarberg

Give credit where credit is due, Haarberg, a sophomore from Kearney, played a solid game, sometimes spectacular, but mostly just solid. Had one fumble, but that was on the OLine. Scoring 35 points is all Nebraska needed. For the team and for Coach Rhule it was good to see them happy. The crowd was rocking and the state can take a collective breathe to relax. Again not pretty but serviceable. I would be surprised if Sims starts next week. We will see.

A young Haarberg with Dr. Tom Osborne. "Just don't turn the ball over son and you'll be fine."

Defense once again looked very good

  • If this defense can get any help at all, they can be a top defense in the Big Ten. They held the Huskies to 149 total yards, 26 rushing yards. Would have held them to 3 points if it wasn't for a garbage touchdown at the end....and what the hell is this going for two at the end NIU? You screwed my mom out of winning a quarter in a numbers pool. How dare you do that to my sweet mother!!!

  • Tackling is so much improved on this team. So many great open field tackles. One interception, 3 more sacks (that makes 14 for the season).

Moving forward LaTech

  • LaTech can score points and has played power five teams pretty well in the past including this year.

  • It's at home again. Hopefully the crowd will be amped again and will cause LaTech "Bulldogs" to shit the bed.

  • Pressure the QB, send the house every play.

Jalon Daniels in an off-game goes 21-27 for 298 yards.

Kansas escapes from Nevada with a win

Again not pretty, especially against a team that got smoked by USC and Idaho, finished 2-10 last season. But going on the road to the west coast and playing a night game at 10 pm central time has to mess with your internal clock. Coach Leopold was asked if you are looking past the Wolfpack and he said we aren't good enough to look past anyone. And I believe that.

Should have been a blowout

  • Game was 10-10 at half. QB Daniels trying for too many big plays early.

  • Nevada got lucky. They put the ball on the turf 4 times and recovered them all.

  • (I must be channeling this nursing home because I fell asleep in the third quarter, granted it was 1 am). Daniels finally got on track and Neal the RB took the game on his shoulders.

  • Jayhawks move to 3-0 in consecutive seasons, first time since 1991-92 seasons.

  • And now the stupidity of the NCAA. Because the game ended at like 2 am east coast time. Leopold rather then fly home right after the game, he wanted his players to get a good night's sleep in the hotel. Now here is the BS. It sounds like a good rule. Football teams are required to have one day off from practice. Problem is, because the game ended technically central time on Sunday, Sunday counts as a practice day. Rather than lose a practice day, KU had to fly home in the morning and practice Sunday night. You are saying why don't you not practice on Sunday and practice on Monday. Because technically Monday has to be an off day regardless, so you lose two days of practice. Thanks a lot NCAA. This is going to be a bigger issue next year, when the PAC 12 teams join the Big 12. Big Ten is going to have the same issues with Washington, Oregon, USC and UCLA. NCAA you better fix this this year.

Coach Hyde gets dowsed with beer and champagne. Says "Just the first step."

Orioles able to split series with the Rays, Clinch a Playoff spot

  • I'm not going to call this almost 💩 the bed, because the Rays are a good team. But salvaging the series with a come from behind win on Sunday was huge.

  • It was a forgone conclusion that the Os would be going to the playoffs. In fact, between innings they showed on the big screen that Baltimore, with a loss by the Rangers, would be going to the playoffs. But it was nice to actually win the game, and what a game!

  • Orioles down one in the bottom of the ninth. Adam Frazier doubles in the tying run with two out. Tenth inning, Rays score one. Bottom of the 10th, Adley singles up the middle to score Hicks to tie the game again. Top of the 11th, DL Hall comes in to shut down the Rays. Bottom of the 11th, Hyde asks O'Hearn when was the last time he has bunted. O'Hearn says like 5 years ago, but let's do it coach. Lays down a perfect bunt. Moves Adley to third. And Mullins, a guy who has seen this rebuild from the beginning, hits a sac fly to win the game.

  • And just like that, the Os take a 2 game lead in the AL East to Houston. Someone might say, hey why are you celebrating clinching a playoff berth...well son you haven't been in Baltimore watching some miserable baseball. Kyle Gibson said it best "You never know if you are going to get back to the playoffs" so celebrate. Felt so good for Hyde and Elias, to see the fruition of all the rough times and hard work to get to this point.

There were many beer bong hits going on in the clubhouse. Good for you Os!

With the tiebreak, let's win the Division Title! Please send me a comment and tell me if you like (or don't like) the Little Ball of Hate, and what you would like to discuss!
