KU-UK Let the Hate Begin

Updated: Feb 16

The Little Ball of Hate doesn't hide his dislike for Duke and Kentucky, that's just a fact.

Kansas beats the Calipari crybabies 89-84

  • Kentucky is waiting for center Zvonimir Ivišić to be cleared. So is Kentucky going to get busted in 7 years for their 7-footer after they NCAA clears him like KU? And why is the Croatian not cleared. Rumor was he didn’t take the right English class, but that wasn’t true. The real reason is he has too many accents in his last name.

  • Shocking that Kentucky has a great freshman class, I feel shocked. Jesus Christ, Bilas can’t talk enough about their freshman. Do you want to adopt them or what? So my money says after this season, three will declare for the NBA draft and one will transfer.

Harris finished with a career-high 21 points.

First half thoughts: Sloppy, KU not playing to its strengths, 48-41

  • Harris hits his first three pointer for KU’s first points. Would love to see him shoot it a little more. He finished with a career-high 21 points!

  • Nicholas Timberlake is going to need some time to adjust. He needs to get used to his new role (a three-point shooter off the bench) as well as a step up in expectations, going from the Colonial Athletic Conference to Big 12 Conference.

  • In the first half, which team was the inexperienced one and which team had all the upperclassmen? Kansas was playing very reckless on offense and missing defensive assignments. Not sure why KU was doubling down low, which gave a young Kentucky team too many open look for threes.

KU wins the second half, 48-36

  • HCBS halftime comment “they are faster than us” gives Bilas a chance to talk about the damn freshman again…Jesus! Holly got into the mix too. Did ESPN do all of their prep work on Kentucky for this broadcast?

  • Kentucky getting a lot of calls from the refs to start the second half and KU’s sloppiness with the ball gives the Wildcats a big lead to start the half.

  • If McCullar wants to be like Jalen Wilson this year, he needs to take control in these situations. Wilson went to the basket and drew contact when Kansas’ offense was out of sorts. The same way KU started the second half, and between McCullar and Adams that’s what happens.

  • KJ Adams and McCullar could take over a game. Back-to-back plays by KJ puts KU within 4 points at 13:50. Including a great half court Alley-oop from McCullar.

  • Kentucky settling for threes and great Kansas transition fast breaks leads to a 20-4 run to tie the game.

Hunter Dickinson goes 20-20 in a great game, which Bilas finally acknowledged.

  • I’m not sure if Jay Bilas can gush any more on Kentucky, is he stroking Calipari? Bilas finally talks about Dickinson. I guess you need to go for 27 points-24 rebounds, for him to talk about you.

  • Kentucky hits 9 threes in the first half, then cools down in the second half. As Kansas takes control of the game, and the Calipari crying starts. KU finishes it off at the free-throw line.

Takeaways and moving forward

  • Games like this are always good early in the season. I liked to see the adjustments made at halftime, and the maturity to settle down and get back to what KU does well.

  • Despite me being 🤢 of listening to Jay Bilas gushing about the Wildcats, Kentucky will be very good this season, especially when they get their height back on the team.

  • Maui will be another good test for the Jayhawks, and since Kentucky won't be there, Bilas will have to talk about other teams, right?

In other sports news

  • Gunnar Henderson won AL Rookie of the Year and Brendon Hyde was named AL manager of the year. Combine that with Elias named top GM, Silver Sluggers for Henderson and Rutschman, the Orioles definitely are getting recognized for a great season and a great organization.
