The Little Ball of Hate is bouncing off the walls as the Roundball season starts again....time to get into the No. 1 ranked Jayhawks' season.
Not going overboard, but for a debut, WOW! No. 1 Jayhawks pummels NC Central 99-56
First half 59-18, easily the best half of basketball for KU so far this season.
Yes, I know it's against Mary's Children of the Poor, but I can see why they were voted preseason No. 1. How about this? 34 assists, 69.5% from the field, 13-23 from three point land. It was a curb stomp for sure.
Michael Jankovich came in at the 8:09 mark! That's always a good sign.
Dickinson finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
Hunter Dickinson is the real deal
A 7-footer who can hit threes, and he is a great passer. I don't care if he is hated. In fact I like that.
The difference between Dickinson and another former KU 7-footer, Hunter actually runs the floor unlike that lazy POS Greg Ostertag (can you tell Greg is my least favorite former Jayhawk).
You ask why I hate Ostertag? I was covering the Jayhawks for the Kansan in 1994, and Ostertag was a freshman. After we lost to Purdue in the Regional Finals, I went to the locker room for interviews. When I went in I saw Patrick Richey, Steve Woodberry and Richard Scott dying knowing that they had played their last game as a Jayhawk. Meanwhile, jackass Ostertag was fucking around with the press photographers. I watched him and got pissed.
Against Illinois and Fort Hays State, I felt Dickinson looked a little sloppy on the blocks. Granted he still scored, but with KUs tough schedule this year he is going to need to clean it up. Dickenson showed a lot better lower block positioning against NC Central. Seems like he is taking his time to pivot toward the basket a lot better. Of course he wasn't being triple teamed, so that probably helped.
McCullar ended with a team high 22 points.
Need to develop other offensive weapons
We know McCullar and Dickinson will be the team’s leading scorers game in and game out, but between Timberlake, Jackson and Braun, KU needs to see a consistent third/fourth option for scoring from those three. Or others
KU needs Timberlake to be a consistent threat from the three point line. That is the reason the Jayhawks got him from Towson.
Harris finished with 10 assists in 25 minutes.
Harris showed why he is the catalyst for this team on offense & defense
Harris is your typical point guard, not really a scorer, more a facilitator. But if he can score somewhere between 5-10 points in addition to doing what he has been so good at in taking care of the ball, that scoring will help take some pressure off his teammates.
KU is always better when their defense triggers fast break points and Harris more often than not is the guy who starts those fast breaks.
Moving forward, this team is definitely a favorite to win it all this year!
That said, Kansas’ non-conference schedule is a gauntlet once again. Kentucky, the Maui tournament, the defending champs Connecticut, Missouri, Indiana, Yale and Wichita State, damn.,I would like to see another team with a tougher schedule than that.
