NU beats La. Tech 28-14, Haarberg Savior?
It wasn't pretty, hell let's be honest, every win for the Huskers this season is going to be a struggle.
Next steps? Michigan at home....yikes! Well nothing would be better than giving Harbaugh his first loss of the season, fresh off his self-suspension.
Offense? Definitely a work in progress
Haarberg did what he had to do, no turnovers, and he ran the ball really well. Would have liked to see some pitches when running the option. But, hey for all I know is Rhule and OC told him NEVER pitch it to avoid turnovers.
Are Sims days done? This week of practice should be interesting.
Eventually, they will need to throw the ball more, because Big Ten defenses will just pack the box with 8-9 players. No shit Sherlock!, thanks a lot Captain Obvious. Michigan will do that next week for sure.
A guy I think could help with the passing game is Tight End Thomas Fidone II. Coming out of high school in Council Bluffs, IA, he was the No. 1 Tight End prospect IN THE COUNTRY! Then two ACLs yikes. He is getting healthy now. Made a great catch yesterday for a touchdown. For a running QB (ex: Batman Lamar Jackson and Robin Mark Andrews), it's nice to have a good tight end as a safety valve in the middle of the field.
Defense, Top 4 in the Big Ten
I know I'm going out on a limb here, but I really think the Blackshirts could be a Top 4 defense in the Big Ten.
Once again, for all four games this season, NU held their opponent to less than 50 yards on the ground. If you take away the Colorado game, which was a case of the defense being on the field too long, NU has held their opponents to 14 points or less each game.
Things could get ugly next week vs. Michigan. Hopefully the crowd will be hyped up.
A packed Booth in Lawrence!
KU moves to 4-0 in back-to-back seasons after a Big 12 opener...huh?
The Booth was packed yesterday in Lawrence, Kansas. So much fun to see! Waving the wheat looks so much better when the student section is filled up.
So, yeah, this is your first WHAT moments of the bastard big 12 season where the Big 12 (ten teams) goes to 14 teams and still has no divisions. KU opens Big 12-10-14? against BYU. But hey at least we aren't the PAC-12, I mean PAC-2.
Anyway, the Booth was jumping, which is a lot better than what I remember going to KU football games as a student. And yes football tickets were free, basketball tickets were not. KU goes 4-0 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1914-15.
This is what I remember of KU football crowds.
Offense will carry this team, 38-27
So KUs defense did what they needed to do, but don't kid yourself, the Jayhawks will go as far as this offense will take them.
A dual combo with Daniels at QB and Bean at RB is deadly for any defense in the Big 12. Then you add in WR Grimm as a deep threat. Look out!
BYU's offense is legit
The Cougars are a perfect addition to the Big 12 "Offense All the Time...Defense, If We Have to" motto.
357 passing yards, 366 total yards. Yes that is 9 yards on the ground. As I said BYU will throw the ball. Bombs away!
A shot of what BYU's offense looked like in the second half.
KU's defense did what they had to do. One fumble recovered for a touchdown and 2 interceptions.
All in all, a good opening win to start to the Big 12 season. And now bring on Texas! Should be a great game next Saturday!
And then the Biggest Laugher, CU gets curbstomped by Oregon, 42-6
And finally, the moment many were waiting for (like me) when Deion got his big ass foot shoved down his mouth. If you want to see a real PAC-12 contender do what they are supposed to do, I hope you watched some of the, what turned into a boring game in Eugene.
Buffs Offense didn't see much of the ball
Oregon's offense had the ball 35:06 to 24:54. Yowzers! 522-199 total yards. Aside from a garbage TD, CUs offense was destroyed. Seven sacks, QB Sanders was running for his life.
Buffs Defense had no answer for the Ducks Offense
My new favorite coach is Oregan Head Coach Dan Lanning: "They're fighting for clicks, we are fighting for wins!" Damn right!
I mean 35-0 at half, Wow! Because of the NU weather delay, I moved my attention to the KU game.
I see another 4-6 losses for "Coach Prime" during the rest of the season.
