If you took Nebraska’s defense and Kansas’s offense, my what a fine football team!

Little Ball of Hate is glad he doesn’t have to watch any more Nebraska football for this season. But is very excited to see the Jayhawks in a good bowl game.

Perfect end to a crappy season. Losing to our rival on a last-second field goal.

Nebraska’s season mercifully ends thank god!

  • In only the way Nebraska could, a 13-10 loss to Iowa was a microcosm of the Huskers season. Let’s see, a sluggish turnover-prone offense that hasn’t learned how to win games yet.

Offense was pathetic, but so was Iowa’s

  • I do think Chubba Purdy is the answer. He shows freshman mistakes, but he also shows a special ability with his arm and legs. Ended 15-for-28 for 189 yards, and 1 TD. Purdy led the team in rushing, granted it was only 42 yards. But one huge interception with less than a minute in the game, allowing Iowa to kick the game-winning field goal.

  • As for the clock controversy. From CBS‘s story: It was a kick that he probably shouldn't have had time to attempt at all. The Hawkeyes were assisted by a major clock error during a Cornhuskers possession with 1:22 remaining. Nebraska quarterback Chubba Purdy completed a short pass to tight end Thomas Fidone, who went down in bounds. The game clock was frozen for the entire play and did not start ticking again until officials set the ball, a process that took 12 seconds. As my dad said, it was probably just as well. NU would have lost in OT if it went that far.

  • Commentators said it was shocking, Nah, Nebraska fans knew what going to happen. We’ve seen this movie before.

  • Wow, watching these two offenses just shows how terrible the West Division was this year. It’s going to be the Wild Wild West with USC and UCLA joining the Big Ten next year. You went to UCLA? What is that a club? You should have gone to Pepperdine.

  • I know this is where I am supposed to say “How amazing Iowa’s defense is” but I’m not. This was a typical Nebraska putrid offensive performance.

Chubba Purdy had a gun! Let's hope he develops and cuts down the turnovers.

  • A shining light, a small morsel of what we might be able to see more of next season was Purdy’s 66 yd TD pass to WR Jaylen Lloyd. It was the biggest play from scrimmage that Iowa gave up this season.

  • Matt Rhule wasted 30 seconds at the end of the game without calling a timeout. His clock management definitely needs work.

Wow, yet another Big Ten offense that sucks just as much as Nebraska

  • Iowa’s third possession was 12 plays for 37 yards. Just ugly.

  • Good to see those two blocked field goals. Sounding like a broken record, with those blocks and great rush defense, if NU’s offense could have done anything, this should have been a victory.

  • Iowa finished with 257 yards on offense. Nebraska finished the season giving up 210.6 passing yards and 92.9 rushing yards per game.

  • Yes Iowa has 10 wins, but this season Iowa fumbled the ball 20 times, only losing 7. Nebraska fumbled it 30 times, losing 13. Difference between Nebraska’s offense and Iowa’s, luck.

Takeaways

  • For the last four games, I have been wanting the Huskers to become bowl eligible, but now I’m glad I don’t have to waste 3 1/2 hours of my life anymore this season watching such awful football.

There is no reason why Iowa should be a better program than Nebraska.

  • Heroes Trophy goes back to Iowa. Nine of 13 games in this series have been one-possession games. Here are the scores in this trophy series:

Jason Bean was on fire, 13-for-17, 250 yards 2TDs. Add in 90 yards rushing and 2 TDs.

Kansas heading to a bowl needed to get back on track and they do, 49-16

Jason Bean makes this offense run

  • Good to see Bean back on the field, Kansas is better when he is the quarterback, nothing bad about Balliard, but he is a freshman after all.

  • Why so much Wildcat? Early on, Bean is having success throwing the ball attacking the middle of the field with Arnold and Skinner. Without the threat of a pass, it helps Cincinnati’s defense which is not very good.

  • Neal and Bryant will play on Sunday for sure, back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons for Neal. And Devin Neal just passed Gayle Sayers on the all-time rushing list for KU. Thats nothing to sneeze at. Bryant a one-handed interception, what? Bryant a 6-1 lock down cornerback. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Jason Bean plays NFL. Not saying he’ll be a first-round pick but a backup QB in he NFL is definitely a possibility. He has the arm for it, and obviously is mobile.

  • I love seeing Casey catching a TD pass. Reminds me of that OT catch vs. Texas. But the crazy thing is it’s not just cute anymore. That catch by Casey and throw by Bean showed great athleticism by both.

Defense needs to shore up tackling before the bowl game

  • Early on, not great rushing defense or tackling. Defense giving up too many yards after contact. Sadly Nebraska’s defense does a much better job of tackling than Kansas.

  • I know what Kansas’ DNA is the last two years, bend but don’t break defense and outscore the other team. I wish the defense would get more 3 and outs.

  • What the hell is going on with Cincinnati? One guy knocks the ball out of a receivers hands after the play is over, then a Cincinnati receiver taunts our player after a touchdown? Showing a lot of attitude for a 3-win team. Did they not get enough sweet potatoes at thanksgiving? Or are they all on the naughty list? They are so angry. All of these unsportsmanlike penalties.

Tidbits:

  • Watching the Iron Bowl, Auburn vs. Alabama and CBS is saying thank you to SEC fans as CBS’s TV contract is done after this year. I guess I heard something about this. Was wondering what was next for CBS Sports. I read the story, a 7-year $8 billion deal with the Big Ten Conference between CBS, Fox and NBC. That will eventually be $63.4 million per school. No wonder UCLA, USC, Washington and Oregon are joining the Big Ten.

  • Don’t fret for the SEC. Disney networks (ESPN/ABC) will start a new contract next year with the SEC, 10 years for  $3 billion. That’s $18.75 million per team.

  • Since Oregon is joining the Big Ten , time to do some research on the Oregon Duck. Here are his push-up totals this season:
