The Little Ball of Hate was pleasantly surprised by an amazing win for the Ravens in heavy rain against a Rams team that came into Baltimore on a winning streak.
The Ravens end their own streak of blowing fourth quarter leads
Lamar Jackson is looking as good as he did in his MVP season, and is playing smarter when he runs.
Ravens’ Offense makes the plays when it needs to
Lamar Jackson shows once again why he may win another MVP award this season, 24-for-43 for 316 yards, 3 TDs and 1 Int. Add in 70 yards rushing including clutch first down runs.
Mitchell did not get as many carries as I thought he should. Right now as far as running backs, he is the only one with breakaway speed.
Lamar seems to be leaning on OBJ more and more without Andrews, which makes sense as the veteran in the receiving crew. OBJ had a huge game against the Rams with 4 catches for 97 yards and 1 TD.
Defense bends but doesn’t bend at the end of the game
Ravens defense was decent against the run entering the game against the Rams. So what did the Rams do? To start their first possession, the Rams ran 8 straight times to drive down inside the red zone, and then….pass the ball three times for no gain. Huh? Settle for a field goal.
Marlon Humphrey, a first-round draft pick out of Alabama, isn't playing up to snuff lately.
Humphrey is starting to look like a first-round bust. Injury plagued, and even when he is healthy, getting burned a lot. Matthew Stafford picked on him quite a bit.
Wallace ends the game with a 76-yard punt return.
At the End of the Day it goes to Overtime
The Ravens win the toss, playing at home, thinking game over, but Baltimore goes nowhere on first OT possession.
Rams stall as the Ravens defense stands strong. Punt coming and Tylan Wallace, the Ravens backup punt returner, sets up to return it. He takes the punt and goes 76 yards on an amazing play to win the game. He broke two tackles and gets tripped up but would not go down. “I'm like, ‘I can’t go down right here. I made it this far,'" he said.
The Ravens now stand as the AFCs best team after the Jaguars lose to the Browns, thanks to, yep Joe Flacco. Ravens road doesn’t get easier: at JAX, at S.F., vs. MIA, vs. PIT.
I've always liked Mahomes, but his temper tantrum looked ridiculous and was not fair to the referees.
Tidbits
As for the Chiefs-Bills game, and Patrick Mahomes going bonkers after a legitimate call. Toney, the Chiefs wide receiver, was almost half a foot over the line of scrimmage on Kansas City’s last play. I can’t believe Mahomes and Andy Reid actually blamed the officiating for the loss in the press conference after the game.
Ohtani gets his big payday from the Dodgers: $700 million for 10 years. Damn, I knew he would get paid but even this surprised me. Between Ohtani, Betts and Freeman, the Dodgers will play them $125 million a year for just those three players. Looking at a total payroll of around $200 million. Ohtani’s salary is more than the Orioles’ total payroll of $61 million.
The Orioles did spend some money for a closer, Craig Kimbrel on a one year deal. It’s not Ohtani money, but it fills the void as the Os wait for Bautista to recover from his Tommy John surgery. Smart move, now I’d like to see a trade for a front line pitcher. White Sox Dylan Cease would be a good starter that wouldn’t cost too many top-line prospects. One guy I would trade is Joey Ortiz. They have their future infield in shortstop Jackson Holiday, third baseman Gunnar Henderson, second baseman Jordan Westburg. Ortiz is just wasting away in the minors, so get value for him now.
