The Border War returns and the little Ball of Hate loves it. There is no other school or state in this country that he hates more. The Missouri Tigers symbolize everything that is evil in this world.
I mean the history between Kansas and Missouri is enough, slave state vs. free state. Burning down Lawrence, Kansas twice!
Oh and their fans are the most obnoxious and vile fans of any sports team that exist. I love when MU and KU played for the last time continuously in 2012, for the intro video they showed the clip from The Outlaw Josey Wales. Here is the clip. “We’ll do without the molasses. Anything from Missouri has a taint about it.” Watch the entire intro video here.
Let me tell you the biggest reason I hate Mizzou and its fans. So when I was covering the basketball team for the Kansan during the 1993-94 season, me and my photographer went to Columbia for the Mizzou game. There are a group of students in the crowd called the Antlers, and they are some of the worst people on this earth. They hand out pieces of paper with info on the opposing teams and what to yell. For Richard Scott, one of my favorite Jayhawks who was born out of wedlock, they chanted “Momma’s Mistake.” Made me sick and respect all athletes who stay under control and don’t attack fans when they say vile crap.
As for the actual game, definitely worried before this one, but I know the fieldhouse will be amped up for this one. To retire Robinson’s jersey at halftime is appropriate. He had the huge block at the end of the last conference meeting between KU and MU.
My bets for the game:
Missouri will cover (+13) - I hope I lose this bet. Bet $4 to win $8
Kansas wins/Dickinson over 17.5/Dajuan Harris 6.5 assists: Bet $5 to win $16.50.
KJ Adams has another big game with 17 points. Averaging 12.9 points so far. He scored 35 points in the last two games.
In-Game thoughts
The Jayhawks struggled coming out of the gates. Half-court offense was a mess. And the Tigers could not miss from the three-point line.
KU had trouble getting Dickinson the ball, and when they did he was cold with easy shots.
Luckily, Elmarko Jackson, 6 points, stepped up and KJ Adams, 10 points, drove the Jayhawks into halftime with a 41-29 lead.
McCullar and Adams combined for 34 points to carry the Jayhawks to another win against the hated Tigers, who haven’t beaten KU in Allen Fieldhouse since 1999.
The Tigers cut the lead down to 66-58 with a Sean East II shot with 2:06 left. The Jayhawks went on to hit their free throws at the end to ice the game.
Jackson contributed 11 points in 26 minutes. KU will need more of this moving forward this season.
Takeaways
KU has to learn how to win when Dickinson isn’t able to score more than 15 points. Teams’ defensive mission against the Jayhawks will be to take Dickinson out of his game. If that happens guys like Parker Braun, Jackson, Furphy and Timberlake need to help out. These guys vs. Mizzou combined for 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5-for-11 from the field. That is not good enough if KU is going to win the national championship.
KU can beat anyone when they are on their game, but when they turn the ball over and can’t get bench protection, they are vulnerable.
