The Little Ball of Hate needs to see a dominating win for the Jayhawks. Bill Self teams rarely lose two in a row and they are back in the friendly confines of Allen Fieldhouse. That should add up to a pounding for Cincinnati, but this is the Big 12, so no luck.
Hunter Dickinson needs to get tougher, maybe even meaner. I am still not a fan of him shooting threes. I know he can make them. But Bilas is right, he needs to be down low and get to the foul line.
Johnny Furphy gets off to a good start. Runs the floor, gets a big offensive rebound, followed by a three.
Is McCullar going to have to beg for fouls the rest of the season? He got hammered on a drive (no call), gets the ball on a fast break and gets pounded again. Is that the defensive plan for opponents?
Timberlake goes back to sucking. Gets burned on defense and missing open threes.
Johnny Furphy plays back-to-back great games, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds. This one in front of his mom and dad.
Second half thoughts, tied 35-35
Bad turnovers to start the half. Get Dickinson on the blocks! Gets early 3 fouls than his fourth. This is easily his worst game as a Jayhawk. You got that NIL deal for a reason, play like it.
Kansas leads all of Division I in assists per game with 21.0, and Harris is the ring leader. Two great passes on fast breaks, and Furphy running the floor is a beautiful thing to watch.
Rob Riggle helps to get a Jayhawk victory.
Good to see Rob Riggle at the game. And it looks like the Aussie Furphy is showing off for his parents at the game. Furphy gets the first freshman double-double for Kansas in four years. Goes for 23 points, 11 rebounds.
McCullar played practically the entire game. KU is going to need better bench minutes, otherwise Kevin is going to get burnt out.
Takeaways
Hunter Dickinson was clearly the prize in the transfer portal. He is going to need to play like it going down the stretch. This team will only go as far as Hunter takes them. He is the difference maker.
Lost my parlay: Dickinson 19 points (10 pts lost), Harris 7 assists (8 ast won), Harris 3 rebounds (1 reb Lost). I’ll take a win instead.
Since 2020-21, KU is 28-2 in home conference games. Playing in arguably the toughest basketball conference in that time, that is insane.
