Guaranteed Rate Bowl win for the Jayhawks over an outmatched UNLV team, 49-36

Updated: Feb 16

  • The Little Ball of Hate was surprised at how much shit UNLV was talking during this game. The Rebels are known for basketball right? And to be in the Mountain West Conference? That’s a bold move Cotton, let’s see if it pays off. Well it did not, the Jayhawks offense was way too much!

  • First bowl win for the Jayhawks in 15 years! Yikes. Next year could be interesting in the Big 12. Gone are Texas and Oklahoma, enter Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah to join BYU, Houston, UCF and Cincinnati. Little Ball of Hate's lead pipe lock of the year, KU will play for the Big 12 football championship next year.

  • A successful season for the Jayhawks with a 9-4 record, a victory against Oklahoma and a bowl win. I just wish we could have beaten the Mildcats. Grrr we had the game won too…move on.

Defense gives up an early TD then clamped down somewhat.

First half thoughts: KU defense sloppy to start, but the offense picks up the slack

  • KU defense wakes up after giving up an easy TD on UNLV’s first possession. The running rebels can’t run vs. the Jayhawks.

  • Meanwhile on offense, UNLV cannot stop KU. Between Arnold and Grimm, the Rebels are going to be in trouble if they can’t contain them. UNLV secondary is getting torched. Just as the Kansan sports department used to do back in the day for the student newspaper, the KU offense carried the Jayhawks like a sack.

  • Bean is throwing darts, combine that with Neal on the ground. The over/under is 65.5. I would have taken the over. The Rebels can put points on the board as well.

  • I don’t think it is a reach to say that KU has three or four players who could play on Sundays: Neal, Bryant, Grimm, Arnold and maybe even Bean.

  • Is the UNLV secondary undersized or what? I've seen at least three catches where the KU receiver took the ball away from the defender.

Halftime stats of note

  • Total offensive yards: KU 333, UNLV 151

  • Yards per play: KU 10.7, UNLV 4.4

  • Craziness first-downs: KU 12, UNLV 11

  • Penalty yards: KU 10 for 140, UNLV 5 for 45

Jason Bean throws for 449 yards and 6 touchdowns! NFL teams, take notice.

Second half thoughts: A lot of scoring, luckily mostly by the Jayhawks, 591 yards total offense

  • De Jesus is UNLV’s offense. Shut him down you shut the Rebels down.

  • Second half is not starting the way Leopold wanted it, and he is pissed. More penalties plus two terrible possessions and bad punts give UNLV great field position.

  • Wow, I’m starting to really hate UNLV players and fans now. They are kind of acting Missouri-ish. UNLV is talking a lot of shit for a team playing in the MVC.

  • I don’t think any other college offense runs more unique formations than Kansas does. They must be a  challenge for a defensive coordinator to prepare for.

Grimm scores again. Hey UNLV, you might want to cover him!

  • Arnold and Grimm combined for 6 TDs receiving. I’m sorry, the defensive coordinator for UNLV should have done better scouting on these two guys!

  • Only drama at this point is my parlay bet: Devin Neal TD ✅, Jason Bean 223.5 passing ✅, Lawrence Arnold 57.5 receiving yards ✅, Jason Bean 23.5 rushing yards….not yet

It's not a KU sporting event if Plunger Head isn't there!

Tidbits

  • Good to see the Plunger KU student guy made it on the bowl trip to Arizona.

  • So of course all decisions made for college sports are all about football, the cash cow, but with the new alignment for the Big 12, this conference could be the best in the country in basketball from top to bottom. Kansas, Baylor, Arizona, Houston...just that would be stacked but add in BYU, Oklahoma St., Iowa State, Kansas State, Arizona St., etc.

  • And how did I miss Minnesota getting into a bowl? That is a sorry team, and yet they won their crappy bowl.
